Mighty Mississippi: Updated Report On Dredge Funding
July 15, 2010 —
In March, The Associated Branch Pilots reported that vital dredge funding for 2010 had to be used in 2009 to combat record high water levels of that year. Since then, an additional $61 million has been reprogrammed from other projects in order to maintain essential dredge operations.
With zero dollars allocated to river dredging leading after March of 2010, the Corps Of Engineers, along with industry representatives and the Louisiana Congressional delegation worked to identify these supplemental funds.
The result was a $61 million stop-gap allowing dredging to continue in the Mississippi River to maintain the deep draft navigation channel and to continue to allow essential river traffic to flow.
We would like to thank all parties involved for their continued efforts to support the maritime industry on the Mississippi river.
