Statement by Captain Michael R. Lorino, Jr,
Associated Branch Pilots President
Wednesday, May 26, 2004
The Associated Branch Pilots voice our support for the continued
efforts to enact legislation that fairly and responsibly addresses
both pilot and industry concerns. While we believe our profession
has been misrepresented by some, we know that ours is a system that
can be made even better - for everyone.
Members of our legislature have been debating this very important
issue, and will continue to do so. Once again, we'd like to impress
upon our elected officials the absolute importance of ensuring that
public safety is not compromised by any legislation. Public safety
is the number-one priority for all the members of the Associated
Branch Pilots. Indeed, ensuring public safety is an issue all parties
in this effort can agree on.
The Associated Branch Pilots have always strived to provide safe,
efficient and timely pilot service.
While current legislation being debated may not address all of
our concerns, we recognize that this is a process of compromise.
While industry is quoted as wanting a guaranteed vote, the Associated
Branch Pilots are committed to creating a system that gives equal
time to all parties and creates a positive impact on the state of
Louisiana.
